Mullets usually follow the tides and the waves coming to the shores or river banks. Has anyone caught them by surf fishing ? I have heard West Malaysians calling names like "Belanak Bakau, Belanak Putih and tamok .." Are they the same ?

Hey guys,

If u're talking about Surf Casting, then i'll like to share some of my recent experience.

For the first time in my life i tried surf casting while i was in New Zealand 27th Dec 07 - 18th Jan 08, which was just very recently.
My cousin brought me to join a few of his ang mo friends to surf cast fishing from the shore of Napier's beach...
we were using rod lenght average of 12ft - 15ft, and they were casting it as far as 100-200++ metres...

funny for me, i think i only manage to cast somewhere between 50-100metres hehe... beginers (noobies)
but being the first experience in my life, i manage to bring back 2 "kahawai" (i think i spell it right) fish. 1 is about 2.7kg and another is about 3.1kg
AMAZING experience i would say hehe...

we started fishing from 1.30pm till 5pm and bring back 2 kahawai on my first time surf casting is a sweet success indeed

how we actually cast it?? my only explanation would be "whacking" the rod hehe
it's more or less like javellin, where u take a big step and just whach cast the rod ....
at first i was just enjoying casting before i actually start to fish hehe, just to get the rythym right hehe

just to share of my recent experience of surf casting fishing in New Zealand
